The Brunei Association of Japan Alumni (BAJA) sent a seven (7) member delegation to the 22nd ASEAN Councilof Japan Alumni (ASCOJA) Conference hosted by the Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (JAGAM) between 30th September – 2nd October 2016. The Conference was held at e-City Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Brunei delegation was led by the current Secretary of BAJA, Ms. Najmina Latif.
[Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran (Dr) Haji Mohd Yusuf bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim] survived the 1945 atomic bombings in Japan; and in 2013, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate from Hiroshima University for his role in promoting peace and goodwill between Japan and Brunei Darussalam.
Japanese Language and Culture Week 2016 was held on the 18th, 19th and 20th March 2016 at Times Square Mall. The opening ceremony was launched by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, Brunei.
The Brunei Association of Japan Alumni (BAJA) was one of the co-organizer and had shared a booth with IBTE/CET. Among other booth present were the Embassy of Japan, JENESYS-MYCS program, UBD-BJFA Chapters, SSYEAP, Misato and Shinobu restaurants and more.
BAJA conducted two Japanese Government scholarship sharing sessions on the 19th and 20th March during the event. BAJA members Ms. Adeline Pang, Mr. Joshua Lim and Ms. Rabiatul Abu Bakar shared their experience studying in Japan. Meanwhile, participants of the National Institution for Youth Education (NIYE) Junior Program and Toshiba Youth Camp Asia Program 2015, both programs coordinated locally by BAJA, also shared their experience joining the exchange program in Japan.
BAJA booth displayed information regarding Japanese Government scholarship programs, the activities done by BAJA for the past 12 months and experience shared by current scholarship students. BAJA members also help to provide advice to those who were are interested to apply for the scholarship.
